German Unit of O2 Gets Mobile Rights For Football World Cup

The German unit of O2 has acquired the rights for highlights for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, being held in Germany…O2 is the first mobile operator to acquire the mobile telephony broadcast rights of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in the host country Germany.
It has got rights to show up to four minutes of video footage per match (for all 64 matches) for “near-live” and post-match highlight coverage on mobile phones to its subscriber base, and also includes access to all archive video material of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Customers will be able to download videos of the matches during the game via MMS or on a subscription basis. Goal sequences will also be accessible during matches through the O2 Active portal. A detailed summary of each game, as well as highlights of each day’s competitions, will be available through streaming video.
