New York-based Vikram Chachra writes to us about his new venture (along with others) Eight Capital, a global investment fund with a strong focus on India.
According to Chachra, Eight Capital specializes in a form of deep value investing, where it identifies and invests in good companies and assets that are trading at substantial discounts to their intrinsic value, due to financial distress.
He says, “We have identified the non-performing loan (NPL) sector in India as a unique and nascent investment opportunity where there is substantial market inefficiency and profit opportunity. As a native of India, I feel this is a uniquely compelling opportunity to participate in an underexploited investment niche in the Indian economy. My role will focus on business development, fund raising and fund administration. We expect to launch Eight Capital in October. The target size of the fund is $150 million.”
