Google has been exploring developing a finance vertical, much on the lines of Yahoo Finance…SiliconBeat picks up on it and says that it is in talks with data vendor Revere Data, a San Francisco company.
My sources tell me that it is not just this one company, but Google has had at least 1-2 meetings with every possible data vendor in the market..at this point it is in an exploratory stage.
Google has, over this year, added some basic stock info for companies, pulling from Yahoo Finance, MSN, Fool.com and ClearStation..see this for a search for GOOG, Google’s own stock symbol.
Also, in its latest sidebar release, it has build in basic ticker and stock capabilities…
It would be logical for Google to extend those and try and build something on its own. Finance information is a very search and data centric operation, something that would fit well into the mix, and add to that alerting capabilities across the Google spectrum, and you can see the potential to push the limits here.
Update: TheStalwart blog has a good wish-list of all what can be improved upon..I’m all for this one: “Everything should be available via RSS feeds from price (at user-selected time intervals) to news, to (if they must have them) message boards to updates of analyst estimates.”
