The Economic Times: Thanks to Bollywood film songs, international hits, whacky sounds and instrumental music, the mobile ringtone industry in India has grown to Rs 100-120 crore. After Bollywood hits, devotional songs such as Hanuman Chalisa and Gayatri Mantra are the most sought-after tunes.
Bollywood songs continue to rule the roost. However, they are not enough to keep the discerning customers happy. Encouraged by the initial customer response to the Hello Tunes service, AirTel has expanded its portfolio of music clips to more than 10,000 songs available in 17 languages, including Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Kannada, Malayalam, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Kashmiri and Bhojpuri.
The potential for caller tune business seems to be bright with the current 60 million mobile user base expected to touch 150-200 million by the end of 2007.
