The NFL will have a high-level gap in new media after Labor Day when Chris Russo, SVP-New Media & Publishing, strikes out on his own to start a media investment company, according to the Sports Business Journal (sub. req.). He’s been with the league since 1999. CR Media Ventures LLC “will assist those looking to invest in new media and serve as an adviser for property rights holders hoping to exploit the growing number of digital distribution channels.” (via Sports Business Daily, sub. req.) SBJ suggests a successor could come from NFL Network CEO Steve Bornstein’s contact list; he knows plenty of digital media vets from his pioneering days at ESPN and his stint at Go.
