Alltel has signed MMS interoperability deals with Cingular and Verizon, and plans to close more deals in the coming weeks.
“Inter-carrier multimedia messaging is another example of the wireless industry working together to provide an enhanced experience for customers,” said Kevin Beebe, Alltel’s group president of operations. Personally, I think the situation could have been sorted out a lot quicker, people may dislike walled gardens for content but they loathe walled gardens for communication.
From WirelessWeek: ”
In May of last year, 3G Americas and the CDMA Development Group, which are usually on opposite of sides of the wireless fence, issued guidelines for inter-carrier MMS in an effort to spur MMS takeup. The guidelines covered multimedia routing, MMS relay/server connectivity and multimedia charging.”
