Amazon.com Starts Selling Digital ‘Shorts’

In its continuing tentative steps into digital media, Amazon.com has started selling new works of short literature and nonfiction Friday from authors who write them exclusively for the Internet retailer. These can be e-mailed, downloaded or printed from a Web site for 49 cents a pop.

About 60 authors have signed up so far, including novelist Danielle Steel, who writes about her life in a 13-page short titled “Candy for the Soul.”

Forbes.com: Buyers can read the story directly from a Web page, print it out, download it as a .pdf file, or send it to an e-mail address. With a Bluetooth-equipped handheld, readers can take the story to go.
