CIOL: As Indian telecom players are betting on triple play — voice, video and data services — to increase their Average Revenue Per User (ARPUs), they are also finding new ways to deliver them by opting for next generation networks.
A tech start-up that made this possible is soft switching and packet telephony solutions specialist, Veraz Networks. Indian telecom majors including BSNL, VSNL, MTNL and Reliance Infocomm have adopted its soft switching solutions.
Reliance has recently signed a $7 million contract to deploy 200,000 IP ports for its long distance operations.
“By deploying these soft switches, telcos are able to cut down on their opex and capex, besides allowing for convergence,” said Yogesh Bijlani, country manager, Veraz. He also said that opting for these next generation networks did not mean that they would have to replace their traditional Time division multiplexing (TDM) switches.
