CIOL: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India’s largest telecommunications company, is expanding its wireless voice and data services to an additional four million customers across southern India with GSM/GPRS/EDGE wireless infrastructure technology and professional services provided by Nortel.
In a launch ceremony held earlier today, BSNL executives announced plans to expand their service offering and allow customers to use GSM/GPRS/EDGE mobile handsets to surf the Web and to send and receive emails and personalized multimedia messages virtually ‘anytime, anywhere.’
This is part of the estimated US$500 million contract announced in December 2004 between Nortel and BSNL to enhance and expand BSNL’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE network in southern and eastern India.
