Mamma.com, the search engine, is buying the popular desktop search company Copernic Technologies, again. The Canadian company went through a simialr buyout process with Mamma.com last year, but before the close of the acqusition, it terminated the buyout citing the formal investigation of Mamma.com launched by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a reason.
The ongoing SEC investigation has yet to be concluded, but apparently is not a concern anymore to Copernic. “Based on further due diligence, we are now confident that Mamma.com is a strong and very well managed company. We are positive about closing this transaction which will create a new organization capable of competing with the best of breed in the search engine sector of the Internet,” said Martin Bouchard, Executive Chairman of Copernic.
