A consumer survey from mobile software firm Critical Path has identified a strong interest in mobile email among consumers. At this point it’s worth noting that Critical Path sells mobile email software…but there are some interesting stats.
In the UK:
- 84% want the ability to select which messages they receive on their mobile phone
- 62% rank “low cost” as a very important mobile email feature
- 96% of consumers are not willing to buy an expensive mobile phone just to get mobile email
- 56% would feel “out of touch” with friends and family without email access for just a single week
- 82% want to be able to choose which emails reach them on their cell phone
- 71% rank “low cost” as a very important feature of a mobile email service
- 63% rank “ease-of-use” as a very important feature
- 53% rank “no need to upgrade devices” as a very important feature
In both countries 96% of respondents indicated they would not be willing to buy an expensive mobile phone just to get mobile e-mail…which is the only intelligent response to the question, really. With the success of Blackberry’s we can assume a large number of people are willing to buy a reasonably-priced device for the sole purpose of sending and receiving email.
