Burden Of Permission: Google’s Plan Doesn’t Scan

This is another way to look at it: Google will temporarily stop scanning copyright-protected books from libraries into its database, but publishers are not happy.

At the heart of the disagreement is the burden of permission. Google wants to make the scanning process as quick and efficient as possible. Publishers, on the other hand, don’t see why they should bear the burden of having to explicitly tell Google not to copy books that they and their authors own the copyrights to.

Looks like this one is going to the court.
