Reuters TCS: SBC Says Reaches Deals On Video Content

SBC said it was making progress in arranging video content for its IPTV set to launch by the end of the year. SBC COO Randall Stephenson told the Reuters TCS summit that it had reached deals with providers in six broad areas — broadcast, basic cable, video on demand, and sports, ethnic and religious programing.

Stephenson said while SBC’s service would be a “me-too” competitor to cable at its initial launch, SBC would try to differentiate its service with new features within a year, such as offering multiple camera angles for sporting events.

The company has said it expects to win about 20 percent of the market share for video services in its region within five years of launch.
