Time Warner Mulls Mobile Market

Glenn Britt, the Chief Executive of Time Warner Cable, has said the company is considering entering the US mobile phone market. “Its mobile phone options include renting space on an established wireless network and reselling existing services through a joint venture, Britt said at the Reuters Telecommunications, Cable and Satellite Summit on Monday”.
The article goes on to quote Accenture Partner Dan Elron as saying that “wireless companies are beginning to drive harder bargains for resale deals. For example, future resale deals could restrict cable companies from letting their customers hop between the cellphone network and the wireline cable telephone service”. Which would be annoying, and yet another way operators stifle technology in an attempt to keep a monopoly. That being said, apparently Sprint is keen to form a partnership with Time Warner.
The interesting thing in the article was the complete lack of mention of any Time Warner content. I would expect the launch of an MVNO to offer special deals on that content to its subscribers…(via Techdirt)
