Thumbplay: Director, Content Acquisition, NYC

ThumbPlay is the leading consumer brand in wireless entertainment. The company distributes mobile content to consumers directly from its web site, http://www.thumbplay.com, and is rapidly expanding into other services and channels.

The Director, Content Acquisition will be tasked with leading content acquisition for the company. In this key role, he/she will be responsible for continuously increasing the depth and breadth of the company’s music, video, art/logos/animations/wallpapers, and games offerings. He/She will design and lead the company’s negotiations with all content and application partners.

Primary responsibilities

– Establish, nurture and grow relationships with content partners in the music, wallpaper/animation, movie, publishing, wireless, and gaming industries

– Author, review, screen, evaluate, and take full responsibility for contract negotiations with content and application partners and, when necessary, involve company’s legal team

– License wireless entertainment content from leading media companies, artists, record labels and other rights organizations

– License wireless applications (premium SMS, BREW, J2ME, and WAP) from 3rd party developers and publishers

– Develop and manage the process for identifying, negotiating and publishing content through online, print, radio, TV, and other distribution channels

– Negotiate promotional plans with content partners and execute campaigns to drive traffic to the web site and grow the ThumbPlay brand

– Work with the product development team on the ideal product mix to maximize profitability/revenue

– Coordinate with the marketing team to secure integrated marketing campaigns for the content

– Develop reporting and settlement processes with content and application partners

Required qualifications

– 4+ years of content licensing, negotiation, and business development experience, preferably with a wireless publisher

– 4+ years working in online, media and/or eCommerce environments reviewing, writing, and executing contracts with complex statements of work

–Proven track record of building and growing a successful content licensing businesses, including day-to-day operations

– Strong communication and analytic skills

– Successful track record in using low-cost, creative content acquisitions to drive consumer downloads

– Ability to manage complex projects

– Ability to manage P&L and budget

– Ability to negotiate and manage content relationships

– Solid understanding of how to aggregate digital media assets

– BA/BS in Business or related field
