Cablevision continues to make a strong showing with the triple play. In fact, its strength on the cable side may force an uptick in the offer by the majority shareholder Dolan family to take the company private.
During 2Q05, Cablevision added 113, 877 Optimum Voice subs, up 31 percent from 1Q05 and up 363,309 from the same quarter last year; HSD subs were up 6 percent from the previous quarter and 29 percent from the same quarter last year; digital video subs increased 7 percent from March and 49 percent from last year. Ad rev was up 6 percent from the previous year. As a segment, telecommunication net revenue was up 15.5 percent to $895,296 with operating income of $135,261, up 23.1 percent over 2Q04.
Sanford Bernstein’s Craig Moffett tracks Cablevision’s resurgence to VoIP. From today’s client note: “The strength at Cablevision — in VoIP, high speed data, and basic subscriber growth — points to upside for Comcast and other cable operators once their VoIP businesses gain traction.”
