CNET Networks, which has been buying out review websites of late, has now bought out Metacritic Inc. and its entertainment review Web site for an undisclosed amount. It was a smalll acquisition, as CNET said the transaction was not material in terms of financial impact or audience size.
The site Metacritic.com, founded in 1999, now has about 170,000 unique visitors per month. It will continue to be run by its three founders, and CNET plans to integrate relevant the site’s content into its games and entertainment properties, including GameSpot and MP3.com, initially.
A note from the founder, here, and the official release, here.
