– Major portals staff up to boost Web site content: MSN UK is hiring editors like crazy, while Tiscali is planning to unveil video ad campaigns from major FMCG firms next month.
– Northern & Shell makes Web debut DailySnack: Magazine publisher Richard Desmond’s Northern & Shell has launched an ambitious new online strategy: it has soft-launched a new entertainment portal, called DailySnack, bringing together content from a range of titles including Daily Express, Daily Star, OK! and shopping magazine Happy.
– Google brings vertical structure to Europe: The search giant is currently recruiting European heads of key vertical sectors, including travel, automotive, retail and technology, following the recent appointment of Jeff Levick as vertical markets director for Europe.
– ITV joins online and interactive teams to focus on revenue drive: The operational restructure will see ITV Online and ITV Interactive brought under the remit of the broadcaster’s consumer division, which was launched early this year to exploit new commercial opportunities in the digital environment..ITV is currently looking to appoint a controller to head the newly merged online and interactive TV operations.
– Trinity Mirror launches network of local recruitment sites in UK: Trinity Mirror is launching a network of local recruitment sites across the UK.
– FHM looks to exclusive online video content to drive revenue: The Emap-owned title plans to add a range of TV-style features to its site over the coming months as part of a wider initiative to take advantage of increasing broadband take-up.
– Guardian launches online campaign to drive US subscriptions: Digital marketing agency Tribal DDB has launched a geo-targeted online ad campaign for news digest publication The Guardian Weekly. Using animated banners and skyscrapers, the ads satirize American TV broadcasters.
