First look: Playboy Enterprises reported net income of $4.6 million for 2Q05 compared to the loss of $8.3 million in 2Q04; “significantly better” is the term used in the earnings release. The publishing group continues to decline and is expected to turn a loss this year; that’s being offset by expected substantial operating income growth of 25 percent in Entertainment, which now includes the Online Group, and Licensing. Increases in the number of subs pushed online subscription revenues up 15 percent to $5.7 million from the same quarter last year. E-commerce brought in $5.1 million, up from $3.8 million the previous year.
