MobiTV Signs Satellite Deal; Moves Into DVB-H

This had to happen: MobiTV, the hot-as-hell mobile TV startup, has signed a satellite operator SES Americom, to roll out its services to customers in Canada, Europe and Latin America. As part of the agreement, MobiTV is leasing equipment, co-location space, IP transport, remote support and downlink services from SES, and will use it to deliver satellite-based streaming mobile TV services.
This is a natural progression for the company which has mainly been clips based till now (or if live streaming, then through a slower 3G or less network).
No details yet of how they want to go about doing this: whether with existign operator partners, handset players or some other way. I’ll find out and let you know…
