That was very quick: Mobot, a Boston-based new mobile content/commerce startup formally launched earlier this year, has been bought out by mobile content tech company NeoMedia, for a total of $11 million.
Mobot has a visual search and recognition technology that recognizes the image taken by a mobile phone camera, and sends the user information/content based on it, similar to technologies NeoMedia already has, hence the fit. Mobot has deals with Warner Music Group, Jane magazine, ELLEgirl, and Vibe magazine, and with advertisers, including L’Oreal, Samsung and Saturn, to launch interactive campaigns across operators and retailers.
