Vivendi Universal, the French media and telecommunications conglomerate, reported higher 2005 first-half revenues on strength in its mobile phone and electronic games divisions.
Universal Music Group’s reported revenue fell 3 percent to 1.05 billion euros ($1.26 billion) but rose 5 percent on a like-for-like basis once exchange rate effects were excluded. Digital sales–which included mobile music–represented 5.5% of UMG’s total revenues.
SFR, the French mobile operator, and part of Vivendi, had net data revenues that improved significantly to represent 12.7% of network revenues for the first half of 2005, compared to 10.5% on the same period last year, mainly due to the 25 % increase in text messaging, 2.5 times increase in MMS sent by SFR customers and the “confirmed success” of Vodafone Live!: 3,193,000 SFR customers were recorded to the mobile multimedia services portal compared to 1,073,000 at the end of June 2004.
