Varsity Media Group has gone mobile and convinced Sprint to offer Varsity Mobile — which “targets the large contingent of teenagers with mobile devices”. The channel, which will cost $4.99 per month, offers “user-created content that is written, directed and produced by teenagers for mobile devices”. This seems to be a different definition of “user-created” than normal, since it doesn’t involve everyone with the mobile creating a bit of content but rather a small group of people who happen to be in the same demographic creating content. There’s four different programs at the moment, including Teen Talent Search, Swept Away TV (a music show), Student Studio (showcasing student-made movies) and Varsity Extreme (which covers extreme sports).
It looks like kids will grow up not only using mobile technology but producing for mobile technology…
