Vodafone Introduces Mobies

Vodafone and Player X have teamed to offer ‘mobies’, billed as “a cross between a mobile game, a tamagotchi and a screensaver”. Earlier this month Mobeon announced a similar bit of software, which was even called the same thing. However, where Mobeon’s was designed to teach people how to use a mobile phone (because Microsoft’s best idea was the animated paperclip) the one from Player X is just for fun. ‘Space Boy’, the first character in the series, responds to everything that happens on the phone from an incoming call to a weak signal or low battery, and will even learn its owner’s routine and begin performing tasks like “getting up, brushing his or her teeth, having breakfast and taking a shower”. Which is kind of disturbing…
Space Boy is obviously a Vodafone shareholder because he gets happier the more phone calls and messages the owner receives, in fact “the more messages and calls received, the more a Mobie can do. New activities will be unlocked and new props and toys will become available. If a user is not receiving calls or messages, they can still ensure their Mobie stays fit and happy, by competing in mini games on the handset, to help their Mobie find more energy and remain healthy.” I don’t think it will be long before all data uses affect the mobie…(via Textually)
