For Q2, Verizon had earned $2.11 billion, compared to $1.80 billion in the year-ago quarter. Revenues totaled $18.57 billion, up 4.6 percent from $17.76 billion a year ago.
Verizon’s IPTV plans: Reflecting the hefty cost of that network upgrade, including new infrastructure to sell cable TV service, Verizon also disclosed Tuesday that it now expects capital spending to reach roughly $15.3 billion in 2005. That’s about $700 million more than the company’s previous estimate, though Verizon said some of the increase is related to the rapid growth of Verizon Wireless.
On content/messaging side, its users sent 4.6 billion text messages, and 62 million picture and video messages were exchanged during Q2, and 36 million downloads of games, exclusive content, ringtones and ringback tones.
