Microsoft Sues Google, Seeks Injunction To Stop Exec From Switching (reg. reg.)

Microsoft went to court Tuesday to try to prevent Dr. Kai-Fu Lee, a vice president in the interactive services division, from becoming president of Google’s new China operation. Lee, an engineer, is an speech recognition expert; he is the latest in the small but sometimes high-profile migration Microsoft to Google in the midst of increasingly intense competition on a variety of fronts. Microsoft argues that Lee’s switch violates the one-year non-compete clause in his employment agreement, contending that Lee has “direct knowledge” of Microsoft’s search technologies and China business strategies that would be used in his position at Google. The Redmond company also went on a public offensive, with a press release and a deputy general counsel doing media interviews.
Google’s response: “We’re thrilled to have Dr. Lee on board at Google and we will defend vigorously against these meritless claims.”
