WABC-TV, the ABC affiliate in New York, has started asking the public to send in footage of news events taken with mobile phones…through on air requests by the station’s anchors and on its web site, 7online.com. This is in wake of the mobile phone coverage of the London Bombings, and the station seems to think it would be good to do regularly.
“WABC hopes that broadcasting images contributed by the public will give it an advantage over its competitors. It “is a way to have something nobody else will have,” Mr. Thompson said.”
It’s also cheaper, the article made no mention of people being paid for their footage…
