I missed this last week, but this is interesting: The UK-nased digital set-top box maker Pace Micro Technology is developing a pay-TV portable device, which allows subscribers to download programmes then watch them on a mobile unit.
The unit/service, called PVR To Go, is only for sale to its cable/TV customers: it is trying to persuade Sky in Britain, Comcast in the US and Foxtel in Australia, but they are waiting until a sufficient number of consumers own personal video recorders and the retail price of the “PVR to go” is below $350.
Pace is confident it will be able to offer it by the middle of next year. Some more details on the mobile unit here on its site…
