Microsoft Courts Hollywood Allies

(reg. req): Every few months you’ll find a story about Microsoft courting Hollywood..this one surround around Microsoft’s pact with Time Warner in 2003, and the progress since then. Perhaps the most significant fruit from MSFT-Hollywood alliance emerged a year ago with the formation of Advanced Access Content System, which close to finishing DRM specs for HD video.

Microsoft digital media chief Amir Majidimehr said AACS, which uses pieces of technology from Microsoft and other companies, would allow some content to be moved around within a home network, such as from a computer to a TV.

The system would also allow the AACS group to reach into the house and change software if the system got hacked to produce unauthorized copies.
