There is some concern that children could have inappropriate contact with adults in mobile chat rooms, and a few recent incidents in Australia have supported that concern…”Vodafone began monitoring its chat room users after Queensland Police laid charges against a man over the use of a mobile chat service late last year…Vodafone then closed its mobile chat rooms two weeks ago after a minor, believed to be a teenage girl, found a way to bypass the monitoring system and share a phone number with another user on the service.”
Australian regulator Australian Communications and Media Authority last month released rules requiring chat room service providers to take steps to “minimise illegal contact” between children and adults, and it’s looking like monitoring the chat rooms will be the only way to do it.
