Responsible for screening, seeking out and developing quality partnerships and strategic relationships for NPR Online, including opportunities to generate revenue from online and digital media activities and opportunities to expand NPR programming to new platforms; responsible for screening, selecting and negotiating relationships with key vendors and suppliers managing some existing relationships and helping NPR’s development department raise revenue through underwriting.
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s of Business Administration or law degree preferred. Must have at least 2 years of experience, preferably related to business development; project management and supervisory experience, preferably in media or Internet organizations and/or public broadcasting may be considered in lieu of a portion of the required business development experience; candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral, as well as significant analytic ability; candidate must be able to handle tight deadlines and work successfully with a variety of people; must be creative, assertive, self-motivated and self-confident with a demonstrated ability to take responsibility, exercise excellent judgment under pressure, show initiative, and work with minimal supervision in a dynamic, demanding, fast-paced office environment; strong problem solving orientation and skills are essential; financial analysis, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), standard financial analysis tools including cash flows preferred; candidate must have in this role to be successful relevant negotiating experience with a proven track record of closing deals; ability to think strategically; skill in crafting action plans necessary to achieve revenue-minded objectives; relationship management skills including an ability to understand each partner’s goals; the ability to work creatively to structure deals, including co-operating with NPR legal and corporate business development teams; strong persuasion, negotiating, and relationship building skills and the ability to negotiate terms and language to govern significant relationships; a high degree of comfort interacting with and influencing partners at all levels of a company; a solid understanding of existing and emerging digital media business models; the willingness to work in a fast-paced and ever changing environment; and an understanding of the culture and values of news organizations and/or public broadcasting.
