Indian gaming companies have started thinking big. Dhruva Interactive, a Bangalore-based game development company, is eyeing acquisitions in China, Russia and Eastern Europe. The acquisition size could be in the range of $1 million-$3 million. The idea is to acquire production capacities which also bring in skills complementary to the western gaming standards. Dhruva is also looking to raise venture capital for its next phase of growth. The company was bootstrapped till 2001, when Eric Mottet, co-founder of Infogrames Entertainment (now ATARI), came in as an angel. Dhruva is an outsourcer as well as a publisher of games for PCs, videogame consoles and mobile wireless devices.
A story in CIOL says that the inorganic growth route would help the company augment its production capacity. The company is also looking to quadruple its team size in the next couple of years from the current 60 to 250. According to CEO of Dhruva Interative, Rajesh Rao, “We already have collaborations with several foreign companies and we are actively exploring non-linear growth opportunities in Eastern Europe and China.” The company has collaboration with UK based games company, The Project Zoo Ltd., that provides games consulting and project management services to the UK games industry.
