Not much new but Diane Mermigas has an interesting interview with new TiVo CEO Tom Rogers, recruited from the board of the company where he was vice chairman to right the ship and put it on full steam. By the way, “sources” insist to Mermigas that the company is not interested in a sale or merger. Rogers sees the ability to provide aggregated viewer data as a major TiVo strength, particularly with interactive advertising. “There is a fascination today with that kind of data. When you can demonstrate what the audience is watching and how they are watching it, the more valuable that information gets. That, packaged with our advertising business, we hope will create a meaningful revenue stream.”
It’s already a cornerstone of the DVR company’s partnership with Comcast. If it can be applied accurately beyond set-tops and TVs to TiVo To Go and similar initiatives, I’d think that would make it even more interesting.
