This is an interesting twist to the MMS porn story (Mallika Sherawat – in the pic – was in the spotlight as her look-alike was featured in an MMS porn clip).
The article says: The only gainers of MMS porn are grateful boys and mobile phone service providers. Today in India, MMS messages are believed to be less than 1% of the total number of text messages sent. But on days when a porn clip, either of an innocent girl or a willing actress, is the rage, the traffic increases dramatically. With most service providers charging Rs 3 (7 cents) to Rs 5 (11 cents) per MMS transfer, the money is not insignificant. But the success of text messaging is a pointer to the prospects of MMS.
Prasad Ajgaonkar, the chief of Interactive Realities, a content firm that has provided over a thousand jokes to service providers, says, “I cannot comment on porn but I do know that it was service providers who first started sending jokes to customers so that the jokes would be further transferred exponentially contributing to SMS revenues.”
But not everyone has a phone that allows MMS. Most of the nearly 57 million cell phones in India are low-end.
