Cingular Wireless today announced the debut of Gretchen Wilson’s latest single “All Jacked Up” through Cingular Sounds, the “first exclusive country music suite of content released through the program”. The ringtone sells for $2.49.
Cingular Sounds promotes music by selling ringtones before the song is released on the radio, so it is either a fantastic promotional tool or completely misses the point of people wanting ringtones of songs that they know and identify with, depending on who you talk to. It’s a good move for Cingular anyway, as the telco is keen to show off its mobile music cred. Country music is also often overlooked when it comes to new technology, but it’s a very significant music market…
