Analyst Dismisses Apple MVNO Rumors

Chasing up on the report by Informa Telecoms and Media that owners of brands would be taking over the mobile content market Macworld posed the question of whether it was likely that Apple would form an MVNO…which has been a rumor since Forbes ran a speculative story earlier this month pointing out that Apple has a strong brand, is a control-freak and is allegedly having trouble getting carriers to adopt the iTunes phone. “Informa Telecoms and Media chief research officer Mark Newman dismissed the notion, telling Macworld: “I don’t see why Apple would want to develop its own virtual mobile network business…I would assume that Apple’s strategy for the integrated mobile phone/ music player is to sell as many units as possible and to work with mobile operators to allow buyers of the phones to download tracks using iTunes.”
