ROK Entertainment Group, the developer of ROK Player, has announced the creation of a joing venture company in Korea…although I couldn’t find any mention in the release of who the JV is with.
The point of Rok Korea is to market the Rok Player — which allows full-length movies and music video albums to play on mobile phones — across Asia. It will also seek out “regionally-appropriate” content to be put on the memory cards Rok uses to store its content.
“Since filing international patents on the new technology developed by ROK to allow the full-screen play of high-definition content on compatible mobile phones, the company has licensed a large portfolio of titles to include movies, music video albums, sports DVD’s and TV comedies from such companies as MTV, Granada ITV, Sanctuary records and Ministry of Sound.”
Considering that most of the worlds top-end handsets are in Korea and Japan this is probably a good move for Rok…
