“By 2020, Every Indian Will Have A Phone And A Net Connection”

Outlook: Ashok Jhunjhunwala (in pic) is a professor at IIT Madras and is an authority on telecom. Dr. Jhunjhunwala’s views are that a lower telecom infrastructure cost will make telecom affordable to more Indians. His idea is to develop technologies which will provide 200 million telecom and Internet connections in Indian cities, small towns and rural areas. He has developed a Wireless Local Loop product, CorDECT, in tune with India’s needs and conditions.
This is an interesting article by him in Outlook‘s Sci-Tech Special. He says, “In order for India to emerge a technological power, it is not enough to provide voice telephony. It is important that we provide broadband connections to at least 50 million subscribers in the next five years…Innovation remains the key. It is safe to dream that every Indian would have a phone and net connection by 2020.” Read further.
