An advanced degree in computer science is preferred, with eight to 15 years technology work experience, with the last five or more years in a management position. Position also requires outstanding leadership, teambuilding and interpersonal skills, strong management capability with organizational savvy; excellent communication skills, and adept at interpersonal, organizational and external communication and communication strategies. Media industry experience preferred, including knowledge of streaming media. Must be a multi-tasker with ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong ability to communicate at all levels of the organization to include content developers, software developers, information architects and designers, and functional management.
Strong demonstrable experience in building scalable transaction-based Web applications using JSP, Java, HTML, XML and Cold Fusion; strong and consistent hands-on technical skill as well as strong project leadership; competence in a broad array of Web technologies; strong ability to lead projects and facilitate teams of four or more people; exceptional technical skills and strong client communication and project leadership skills. Must be able to create appropriate architectures, specifications and technical project plans from client interactions. Must have ability to participate in corporate initiatives to guide digital Online/digital media technical direction. Director should have a hands-on management style and ability to operate independently with a small core team; experience in motivating and hiring people of high caliber; an understanding of Web hosting environments and ability to direct activities of hosting vendors preferred. Ability to manage a 24×7 lights out operation; and ability to oversee administration and improvement of tracking and reporting mechanisms designed to monitor network performance.
Technical skills required include: Java and Java-based technologies; extensive knowledge of J2EE architecture and other design patterns and practical experience JSP, EJB, JDBC, JNDI, JMS and JTS/JTA; knowledge of and practical experience with XML and XSLT Web platforms and application servers; relational databases, Oracle preferred; experience in developing and perfecting content management systems, CRM systems and MS Office Tools; experience in software industry best practices (Requirements Management, Change and Configuration Management, Project Management, Visual Modeling, Iterative Development); networking experience, firewalls, load balancers, etc.; very strong Content Management customization of deployment experience (4+ years); knowledge of various audio streaming servers including Real, Microsoft Windows Media, Apple Quicktime, Icecast and Shoutcast preferred; and familiarity with MP3 technologies and players. Prefer significant experience in public radio, media or broadcasting company.
