Sprint' EV-DO Service Launches; Future Boost For Mobile Video

In U.S., Sprint has turned on its high-speed EV-DO network in at least 13 cities, offering DSL-like wireless Internet speeds–a move that should help mobile content, especially video. Sprint joins Verizon, which has EV-DO in 43 cities, and Alltel, which now has service in four cities.
For now, the service is only for laptop cards, but mobile services — such as video clips — will be available on new cellphones and hand-held devices during Q4. Sprint’s Sprint TV service, which has plenty of programming but poor video quality, will probably receive a very welcome new lease on life when EV-DO phones appear.
