This should be a big boost for online music and digital media ocmpanies like RealNetworks and Apple: European Commission has proposed a single Europe-wide copyright and licensing system for online music. Each country requires separate copyrights for the right to transmit songs over the Internet. Artists or their recording companies end up paying an estimated EUR475,000 to license a single song across the E.U., said Commission.
The Commission said it will create a single system governing online music rights by working with the collective rights managers, not by creating a “super-regulator.”
