Beyond the glossy numbers and praise for AOL Music, Saturday’s multiple stream added another milestone: relatively glitch-less mass streaming video or, as the AP put it, “a milestone in the maturity of streaming video.” Some people did experience problems — most of mine were browser related, others couldn’t get connections — but, once on, buffering was barely noticeable while the streams were clear and fast. AOL has had plenty of practice with streaming but nothing on this scale.
Analyst Rob Enderle told AP he thought the experience was too much like TV, that programmers need to better take advantage of the medium instead of replicating other media. That’s already on the way. In the meantime, why not enjoy the milestone moment?
