BlingTones has reportedly sold 3 million units (which include ringtones, wallpapers and screensavers) since it launched in September last year…the article has an interesting point on the concept of producing songs specifically for mobile phones: “For the approach to catch on, the tune had better highlight the artist’s particular style so clearly that it’ll be recognizable even when no one has heard it on a CD or over the air. That makes BlingTones’s signing of hip-hop superstar Lil Jon a savvy move, since the artist’s distinctive “crunk” sound dominates the genre both through his platinum-selling CDs and his producing efforts.”
