Ringtones Promote Pet Care Products: Purina, which sells pet care products, has put up five ringtones on its website, including “cat and dog noises, along with jingles and sounds from its offline advertising. Wallpapers consist of pictures of cats and dogs. Users can also sign up to receive pet care tips via SMS”. The company admits there is no compelling reason to offer pet care content to people on the go, but the company had the content and so “felt there was no harm in testing whether users were interested”. They’re also doing podcasting, which they say is even less demanded…
“We plan to evaluate the learnings from this campaign to determine even better ways to include mobile solutions in the marketing mix in the future,” said Pat Isom, vice president and account director at Arc Worldwide, in a statement.
Top Ringtone Of The Year: The 18th Annual ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards saw a new category — Top Ringtone Song of the Year, sponsored by Jamster. The first one went to “In Da Club,” written by 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, and Mike Elizondo. ASCAP is the first U.S. performing rights organization to license and distribute royalties to its songwriter members for ringtone performances. (via Ringtonia)
