With third-party WAP portals on the rise, there’s a solid argument that advertising on those portals will also follow suit. “First, this will happen through the introduction of mobile search for third-party content, followed by advertisers buying premium positions on the WAP deck,” said Bango’s vice president of marketing and alliances, Anil Malhotra. “Only then will we see the introduction of advertising banners.”
However, as the article points out, the mobile screen is so small that putting a banner on there will seriously restrict the content that gets put on the screen…3 is encouraging people to watch video ads by offering free wallpaper downloads after watching the ad, which is one way to go. Better than outright bribery is to make the ads entertaining, so people will want to seek them out and watch them.
