We don’t usually report mid-level moves but this one comes just after a massive shout-out in the New York Times. Rob Curley, one of the architects of the strategy that helped gain the Lawrence Journal-World the NYT headline “Newspaper Of The Future,” is leaving Kansas for Florida and the Naples Daily News. According to a report in the Newspaper Association of America’s Online Publishing Update, Curley is taking five former and current colleagues with him to the Scripps paper. This is Curley’s chance to show whether the techniques that are working in a combo cable-tv-newspaper company can succeed “in a market that doesn’t have an insane amount of broadband penetration or 25,000 college students.” So for all of you wondering whether journalism 2.0 can carry over, keep an eye on Naples –and on Lawrence.
