Verizon Wireless Plans Music Phone, Service

(reg req.) Verizon Wireless will unveil a music-playing phone and online music service to compete with Apple’s iTunes store and phone to be launched with Motorola. A Verizon Wireless-branded LG handset will be available by August, as much as a month before Motorola and Apple are due to unveil an iTunes phone.
NewsFactor: “We intend and are working toward the launch of a service that would allow for full music on a mobile phone,” a VZW spokesperson said. Verizon Wireless has one phone is its handset lineup that will support music downloads, which will be available “in the next couple of months,” he noted.
The online service itself, though, will take longer to work out. “It will not be available when the phone becomes available,” spokesperson noted.
