The next generation Java platform for Series 60 enhances the underlying capabilities of the Java technology found in today’s J2ME platform for mobile devices. This, in turn, opens the door to the creation of powerful Java technology-based middleware applications, such as those that will enable operators and network administrators to remotely manage and monitor applications and the device platform. Additionally, incorporating CDC into Series 60 Platform will provide the foundation to enable Nokia and other Series 60 device manufacturers to build next-generation mobile phones that easily allow the addition and customization of functionality after a device has been manufactured and deployed.
“By creating specialized zones for Forum Nokia PRO members, our aim is to keep our global developer community at the cutting edge of mobile application development trends,” said Lee Epting, vice president in charge of Forum Nokia. “Working closely with other business arms of Nokia, such as Nokia Networks and Nokia Enterprise Solutions, we can enrich the technical and business environment for our qualified developers and create a faster path to market for their solutions.”
Nokia, a leading provider of connected, multiplayer Java games, and Sun Microsystems today announced the inclusion of Nokia’s Scalable Network Application Package (SNAP) Mobile APIs in the beta release of the Sun Java Wireless Toolkit (version 2.3), formerly known as the J2ME Wireless Toolkit.
