iWitness Mobile, Picture Your World

This is not so much citizen journalism as citizen commentary, and is a pretty nifty idea.
“On your phone you can passively observe and actively contribute to the news and photos on display. See what the mainstream news media are reporting right now or recall a moment in history…When you come across a news item of particular interest you can request a “Fresh Perspective”. This will generate and display an entirely new collection of images that broaden, and at times push the limits of, your associations with the original news item.”
There’s an online demo, but it doesn’t really explain very much. As far as I can tell if users are particularly interested in a news story they can get more images — and possibly some commentary — about the story on their mobiles. The content is drawn from tenbyten.org and flickr, and from user submissions on a story.
I’m not sure if the news stories are included with the application or are seperate…I’ll try to get some more info. (via Textually.org)
