MTV Forms Interactive Games Unit

MTV Networks has formed an interactive games unit…MTV Games will work in-house through its newly created interactive entertainment studio, along with partners, to produce and market original video game titles. As part of that, it has struck a marketing deal with Midway Games to jointly launch three video games and sell in-game advertising for those titles.

Also, with MTV and Midway, there is a much stronger corporate connection: Sumner Redstone, CEO of Viacom, also owns 82 percent of Midway.

MTV Games is being overseen by Jeff Yapp, EVP, MTV Networks Music and Logo Enterprise Group. Tony Calandra, Sr. Director of MTV Interactive Products, will manage the new division and Joseph Varet, Director MTV Business Development & Strategy will oversee MTV Games’ business partnerships and strategic relationships.
